Byron Kelleher believes Toulouse must improve in order to qualify for the latter stages of the Heineken Cup.
The three-time champions got out of jail in their first pool match against Bath thanks to David Skrela's late penalty.
But All Black scrum-half reckons the French giants need to step up a gear to win Pool 5.
Kelleher said: "We started slowly and we aren't happy with our performance. We have to improve.
"We struggled to get any rhythm in our game. It was really stop start and that made the game really difficult for us.
"There was a lot of pressure on us to win playing at home but that's no excuse. We have not hit our best form yet."
