Edinburgh physio Olli Finlay said: "We will begin rehab in the brace so that by the time he finally sheds it, we can put him on an accelerated rehab programme which should see him returning to rugby in around 12 weeks, assuming there are no unforeseen complications."
Twenty-three year old Hogg is yet to feature in this season's Heineken Cup. This injury rules him out for the remaining Pool 2 games in December and January.
