Tom James gave coach Dai Young a welcome reminder of his abilities with two tries on his return for Cardiff Blues.
The Wales wing missed the entire Six Nations campaign through illness after he was named in the original squad.
But he roared back to health with his double that sank Edinburgh 20-0 at Murrayfield on Friday night - and set his sights on Toulouse next week.
James, 20, said: "I was gutted to miss the Six Nations but it was great to be back and scoring tries. I felt strong and that was one of my best games for the Blues.
"The win may be too late for the Magners League title, but we've got so much to play for against Toulouse next week. That's the big one."
Nick Robinson also returned from a long-term groin injury with a 20-minute appearance off the bench. Jamie Roberts scored the Blues' third try.
The away victory will have given Dai Young's side confidence ahead of the knockout match with Toulouse this weekend as they fight to gain something out of this season.
