Blues look at wing fitness

Wales wing Halfpenny, 20, hobbled off against Edinburgh on Friday night after bruising his back. Now the Blues are hoping the injury settles with veteran wing Thomas also rated 50-50 for Saturday's clash at the Millennium Stadium.

Blues coach Dai Young said: "Leigh took a knee in the back and we took him off straight away as a precaution. Hopefully it was just a bump and won't get worse. We really don't want to lose him for such a big game."

Thomas, still the most capped player in Welsh rugby history, is also fighting to prove he is ready to face former club Toulouse.

Thomas, 34, has not played for six weeks with a hamstring strain after pulling out of Friday's Magners League fixture at Murrayfield, leaving the quarter-final tie in doubt.

Young added: "We're hopeful that Alfie will be available but we had hoped we could get some game time after so long out. You want to guy of his experience to be involved."

Toulouse are also sweating on the fitness of Jean-Baptiste Elissalde and former All Black Byron Kelleher.
