JULIEN ARIAS (Cardiff v STADE FRANCAIS).
In the week of his 21st birthday, Arias broke the back of Cardiff with his amazing touchdown early in the second half at the Arms Park.
There was some bad tackling from the Blues, but the former Colomiers wing showed power, strength and pace to shrug off his pursuers on a 90-metre journey to the corner.
Stade look good, and my old sparring partner Fabien Galthie has an immense squad, including 21
internationals, with which to craft a real challenge for the title. And many of those are still out injured!!
I believe the former France scrum-half can become as good off the pitch as a coach as he was
on it. He has created a nice balance in his side, and I'm sure has been helping Agustin Pichot play with more control. He gets on with the job and is a fabulous influence.
No wonder the Stade president believes the Paris club can win bioth the French and European crowns.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
The NEWPORT GWENT DRAGONS' triumph at Murrayfield was the first Welsh victory in the competition, and they played like a good side, attacking very well.
The opposition, Edinburgh, was not the strongest but, after losing to Newcastle so disappointingly at Rodney Parade, this was a real boost for the Welsh regions.
I was impressed by Jason Forster, who led his side well from the back row, and Percy Montgomery and Hal Luscombe added a touch of class in the backs.
The Dragons are now flying the flag for Wales with the Scarlets, Ospreys and Blues now all highly unlikely to qualify.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MICHAEL ROBERTS (London Wasps).
As Heineken Cup debuts go, this was a stormer for the 22-year-old Liverpudlian wing. A hat-trick capped off by a stunning score in the corner. He is big, strong and quick - a lethal combination.
Ok, so Calvisano are probably the weakest team in the tournament but Roberts' display shows again that Wasps don't just go for the big names, they bring players through all the time.
Credit to Wasps, they have suffered from injuries but have trusted these new young talents to show their worth.
VILLAIN OF THE WEEK
RICHARD MUSTOE (Neath-Swansea Ospreys).
No contest, I write this before any sanctions are handed out to the winger and he should get a lot for his reckless kick at Munster prop Marcus Horan's head.
Horan had lashed out a bit, but that was a knee-jerk reaction compared to what Mustoe did...He looked down at the prone prop and knew what he was doing. Disgraceful.
MOMENT OF THE WEEK
NICOLAS JEANJEAN'S GYMNASTICS (Toulouse).
The Toulouse full-back showed that he could have performed in the Olympics with his neat forward roll during the move which led to a fantastic try against Glasgow.
The 1996 and 2003 European champions cut the Glaswegians to pieces in the first half at Ernest Wallon and Michalak's try encapsulated what they are about. The pace and willingness to attack from distance of Cedric Heymans, quick hands, JeanJean's improvisation and Michalak's footballing skills.
They are up there with Stade Francais, Wasps, Leicester, Munster and Leinster as favourites to lift the Cup at Murrayfield in May, and rightly so.
