Dewi Morris selects his pick of the week from the third round of the Heineken Cup.
TRY OF THE WEEK:LEWIS MOODY - WASPS v LEICESTER
There were a lot tries this week that could have taken this slot but in context and the way it set up the intensity of the match it has to be the opening try for Leicester against Wasps.
Wasps hooker Phil Greening over-threw at the lineout; Leicester flanker Neil Back picked it up and handed on to Daryl Gibson with quick hands. The ball was then sent out to Leon Lloyd, who via Ollie Smith found Lewis Moody on the wing who outpaced Joe Worsley to give the Tigers the opening score with just 77 seconds of the match gone.
As I said I'm sure there were more elaborate tries scored this weekend but for importance in an intense match this was pretty special.
TEAM OF THE WEEK - TREVISO
It has to be Treviso for their win over 29-23 victory over Bath on Saturday. Their victory and performance is brilliant for Italian rugby who have so long been the whipping boys of the Heineken Cup. I think Italian rugby can reap the benefits through them. It was an impressive performance on the back of their 34-0 win over Bourgoin and although Bath came back at them late in the match they held on and have set themselves up to qualify from Pool 2 as one of the best runners-up. They still have some tough matches against Bath this weekend and at home to Bourgoin but I hope they do make it through for a quarterfinal place, they are a credit to Italian rugby.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK-CONTEPOMI
Even though Bourgoin aren't really interested in the Heineken Cup and turned out a weakened side my choice has to be Leinster's inside centre Felipe Contepomi. He scored three tries and his all round play was outstanding. Contepomi missed out last season when he wasn't registered and he is clearly making a good go of things. He was the one player who didn't put a foot wrong and his distribution and reading of the game was fantastic. His performances this season also gives Leinster a welcome headache because he adds to their choice of quality backs and it will be interesting to see where he plays once Gordon D'Arcy returns.
VILLAIN OF THE WEEK-LAURENT SEIGNE
This week's villain has to be Laurent Seigne the coach of Bourgoin. He has stated he doesn't care about the Heineken Cup and has had a spat with the club's owner over signing new players.
He has decided to concentrate on the French league where Bourgoin are second but his attitude undermines the competition.
I don't agree with his attitude it's not good for rugby or the competition and I think the ERC are planning to take action.
MOMENT OF THE WEEK-DALLAGLIO v JOHNSON
It has to be Lawrence Dallaglio and Martin Johnson going at each other hammer and tongs during Wasps' match with Leicester, which typified the intensity of the match between the two sides. Rob Howley and I were laughing our heads off back in the studio because we've both been there and know the things that would have been said. It was funny to see and I felt sorry for the referee who should really have been given earplugs! At one point I saw Dallaglio turn round and tell Johnson to shut up before Neil Back chipped in as well - it's a wonderful part of the serious way these sides take this competition and with Wasps needing a result at the return match this weekend we can expect more of this kind of intense rugby at Welford Road.
