London Wasps scrum half Joe Simpson paid tribute to half-back partner Dave Walder after he steered the English side to the brink of qualification for the quarter-finals of the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Walder hoisted his season's tally to 42 points in Pool 4 as he kicked all his side's points in their 12-3 victory in Bayonne. That made it four out of four for Wasps and earned Walder the praise of his team mates.
"Dave really controlled the game and put us in right places. It's great playing with someone like him because he tells you what to do and bosses everyone around," said Simpson.
"People were writing us off, but we are having an excellent season. We have got a fantastic defence and we really proved that in Bayonne.
"But I thought we really stepped up at the scrum and the front five really won us the match."
With games to come against Rugby Roma and Racing Metro, both of who are out of the running for a last eight berth, in the final two rounds, Wasps are on course to match their 2002/03 Challenge Cup campaign when they won the title.
