Sale Sharks announce that James Gaskell will captain the side during the 2010-2011 season.
The 20 years old back row will become the youngest-ever captain of the double Amlin Challenge Cup champions. The previous record was held by Alex Sanderson, who was captain during the 2000-01 season.
Gaskell is a product of the Sale Sharks' Academy, having joined the club as a youngster from Sandbach. He made his debut in October 2008 against Cardiff Blues in the EDF Energy Cup and played all the Heineken Cup games with Sale last season.
Along with team mate Carl Fearns, James impressed in the 2009 Junior IRB World Cup and made 21 appearances last season for England, scoring four tries.
Sale Sharks will start their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign against the Spanish team El Salvador on Saturday, 8 October at Edgeley Park.
