Newcastle Falcons stretched their lead at the tp of Pool 5 in the Amlin Challenge Cup as they came from behind to beat Montauban at Kingston Park.
The decisive score came from Alex Tait midway through the second half when he crossed for the only try of the night after the Falcons had finally managed to secure some quick ruck ball and create some space for their back line to work in.
Two drop goals from the visitors gave them a 6-3 interval lead and they looked the more likely team to break the try deadlock in the opening period.
Their lively pack, in which Argentinean back row man Alejandro Campos was outstanding, made ground on a number of occasions and better accuracy would have brought them richer rewards.
