The stars that are lighting up the Six Nations will soon be shining in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
Players such as Vincent Clerc, James Hook and Shane Williams – all winners of man of the match awards in the first two rounds of the Six Nations – will be in action on the first weekend of April when the prestigious knock-out stages of European club rugby’s premier tournament takes centre stage.
HEINEKEN CUP QUARTER-FINALISTS IN THE 2008 SIX NATIONS
* Wales fly half James Hook (Ospreys) is the leading points scorer after two rounds with 28 points.
* Three of the top four scorers Hook (Ospreys), France wing Vincent Clerc (Toulouse, 25 points) and Ireland fly half Ronan O’Gara (Munster, 22 points) are with Heineken Cup quarter-finalists.
* France wing Vincent Clerc (Toulouse) is the leading try scorer with five.
* Two of the top three try scorers – Clerc and Shane Williams (Ospreys, 2 tries) – are with Heineken Cup quarter-finalists.
Eleven of the 19 tries scored have come from players with Heineken Cup quarter-finalists.
* Four of the six Man of the Match awards have gone to players with Heineken Cup quarter-finalists – Vincent Clerc (Toulouse, 2) James Hook and Shane Williams (both Ospreys).
* A total of 46 players from the Heineken Cup quarter-final clubs have appeared in the 2008 Six Nations so far. The Ospreys lead the way with 15 followed by Munster (9), Toulouse and Gloucester Rugby (6 each), Cardiff Blues (5) and Perpignan (4). However, Gloucester’s England centre Mike Tindall will not be fit for the Heineken Cup knock-out stages.
