The former Scotland international captain has been with Gloucester for three seasons as the assistant coach to Director of Rugby Dean Ryan and now takes on the role of Head Coach.
Gloucester chairman Tom Walkinshaw confirmed that as part of a review the club have decided to fill the position of Head Coach that had been left vacant when Dean Ryan was appointed as Director of Rugby.
Speaking about the appointment Walkinshaw said "Bryan’s playing record speaks for itself and, as a coach, he has quickly earned the respect of the playing squad and his peers.”
“Bryan is extremely excited to be appointed Head Coach of such a big club and he will review the squad and add his own stamp in due course.”
Dean Ryan moved to Gloucester from Bristol in 2002 and went on to win a European Challenge Cup trophy in 2006
Gloucester will face Newport Gwent Dragons, Biarritz Olympique and Glasgow Warriors in Pool for of the Heineken Cup with the action getting underway on the weekend of 19/10/11 October.
