Fans flock to capital clash
2 January 2009, 2:52 pm
London Wasps have received a huge New Year boost with the news that advance sales for their 'Battle of the Capitals' clash with Leinster in Round 5 of the Heineken Cup have rocketed through the 20,000 barrier.

The game was moved by Wasps to Twickenham Stadium and chief executive Tony Copsey is already reflecting on a decision well made with sales already having more than doubled the regular capacity at Adams Park.

“We are delighted to cross the 20,000 mark. There is clearly a great interest in this game and by taking it to Twickenham we know that both Wasps and Leinster supporters can enjoy a huge rugby occasion.," said Copsey of the game that will kick-off at 5.35pm on Saturday, 17 January.

“Club rugby is very strong at the moment – the support that has been seen for the big games highlights the strength in our sport and it is very encouraging.

“There is so much at stake in this game and the support from our fans will be very important. I would encourage everyone to get to Twickenham and take advantage of great ticket offers and really enjoy a good rugby day out.”

Murrayfield – venue for the 2009 and 14th Heineken Cup final on Saturday, 23 May – the Millennium Stadium and Stade de France have all seen Pool matches already this season. It means that Twickenham will become the fourth Six Nations venue to host a Heineken Cup match this season.

More than 600,000 fans have already gone through the turnstiles for the 48 matches played in the opening four rounds. Not only that, advance sales for the Edinburgh 09 final have gone through the 32,800 mark and 15,000 of the remaining tickets will be retained for the finalists to share.
