Walder earns plaudits from Wasps boss Geech

Ian McGeechan praised Heineken man of the match Dave Walder for his star performance that kept his team weel and truly in the Pool 2 mix, now, the next stop is Twickenham in the New Year and a showdown with Leinster.
Wasps kept  their Heineken Cup quarter-final qualification hopes alive with a hard-earned 19-11  victory Edinburgh, and, along with Leinster’s surprise defeat by Castres in France at the weekend, it means former double champions Wasps are now just three points adrift of the Irish province with the Twickenham showdown in Round 5 set to have a huge bearing on the eventual Pool winner.

“It will be like a mini international – both teams are packed with international,” said Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan.

“I am very pleased with the back to back wins because they have put us back in the competition and that is the most important thing of all.

“We knew they would want to make a statement against us today and I thought we handled that pretty well.

”I was delighted with Dave Walder’s performance, he defender were well, was 100 per cent with his kicking and attacked the line well for his try.”

Walder scored all the points for his side. He got the scoring going when he sliced through the Edinburgh defence in the 12th minute for what ultimately proved to be Wasps’ only try. His four second half penalties completed the home side’s scoring.
