Leinster's Heineken Cup destiny in in their own hands despite losing to Wasps at Twickenham. Their losing bonus point means that should the two teams finish the Pool with the same points total, then the try-scoring bonus Leinster earned in Round 2 will see them through.
The home side had the lead throughout, and had a late penalty which they elected to kick. That may have given them a seven point win, but it crucially meant Leinster had earned a losing bonus point.
Depending on the results on Pools 5 and 6, both Wasps and Leinster could still even as Pool runners up. It is a tight season in the Heineken Cup, with both the English and Celtic champions providing much of the excitement.
Their clash at Twickenham was more a war of attrition than a demonstration of flair, and it was left to one of steadiest players in the game to score the only try of the match.
Serge Betsen was that man and his score after 14 minutes, converted by Cipriani, was the only try in a game where any defences shut down the majority of prmising attacks.
Both sides scored four penalties, three from Cipraini before he was replaced by Walder. And four from the ice-cool Argentine Filipe Contepomi.
This match was never likely to be a ready of the rout of round 2, where Leinster ran riot at the RDS. But none of the 33,282 crowd at Twickenham would have minded that.
