O'Gara in control in Sale
McGahan tells Munster to stay focussed
19 October 2008, 5:05 pm
Munster coach Tony McGahan is refusing to believe that a three point lead at the top of Pool 1 is enough to install the reigning champions as favourites for a quarter-final berth.
Despite seeing his side beat Sale Sharks 24-16 in front of a capacity crowd at Edgeley Park, McGahan was taking nothing for granted as his team seek to become only the second side to successfully defend the Heineken Cup.

“Not at all,” was McGahan’s quick response when asked if Munster were now in control of the Pool.

“A three point lead doesn’t give us any control. We need to go and get a result in Clermont.

“We are delighted with the win and this is another chapter in Munster’s great history in the Heineken Cup. Sale are a great side and they proved that by coming back to 16-16.

“They certainly didn’t disappoint us and when Charlie Hodgson came on in the second half they gained some control.

“In the second half we just needed to keep on doing what we were doing and it came right in the end. There are still areas for improvement, but it is great to have won our first two Pool matches.”
