Sale's Lee Thomas is likely to miss the remainder of the Pool stage following diagnosis of the injury he sustained last weekend.
The centre played just 13 minutes of his side's impressive 32-15 win over ASM Clermont Auverge, and that could be his only involvement in the quarter-final qualification race.
The club has confirmed that Thomas has been diagnosed with a severe and complex dislocation of the shoulder.
He will undergo surgery at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle and recovery time is expected to be three months.
With the final rounds of the Pool stages taking place at the end of January, his involvement in the remaining five Pool games in doubt.
This weekend his club will aim to build on their eye-catching win in France with the toughest of challenges - a visit from the European champions.
Munster will be looking to reassert themselves as Pool favourites after just squeezing past Montauban in Round 1.
