Anthony Foley
Anthony Foley in action for Munster
Foley scores try on league bow out
9 May 2008, 10:35 am
Triple Heineken Cup finalist Anthony Foley scored a try in his final league appearence for Munster last weekend but could not prevent h is side from losing to Glasgow
Despite the presence of squad captain Paul O' Connell in the squad, Anthony Foley wore the captain's armband  in his last game at Musgrave Park on Saturday night in the Magners League 18-21 loss to Glasgow.

Foley may have touched town to rapturous applause but it was a controversial try for the visitors that provided Glasgow with their match-winning score.

There were doubts about whether Thom Evans had successfully grounded the ball for his 68th-minute try, while Munster were also incensed by a clear case of obstruction in the build-up to it.

Dan Parks' brilliant conversion from the left touchline put the Scottish side 21-13 in front and despite a furious finish from Munster, which included an unconverted Paul O'Connell try, the visitors clung on for the win.

Two of Munster's greatest servants lined up for their final home match with the province – number 8 Anthony Foley captained the team in his 201st competitive game and newly appointed Ireland coach Declan Kidney took his usual spot in the stand.

But there was no room for sentimentality with an in-form Glasgow outfit in town.

Foley has announced he will call time on an illustrious career with Munster at the end of the current season, and he still has the chance to end on a high.

Should Foley be fit for selection he will play his 87th Heineken Cup match in Cardiff on May 24, when his side try to take down triple European champions Toulouse.
