Jonny Wilkinson has rediscovered his top form according to RC Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal.
The English World Cup winning fly-half kicked 23 points in his side's victory over reigning French champions Clermont Auvergne at the weekend.
Last season's Amlin Challenge Cup finalists beat Clermont 28-16, with captain Joe Van Niekerk scoring the decisive try as Wilkinson added to his haul of 21 points the weekend before, kicking five penalties, two drop-goals and a conversion in Marseille.
"Wilkinson is one of the best outside-halves in the history of rugby and he showed that today," said Boudjellal.
"It is a Jonny who, in my eyes, is much stronger than last season."
Victory for Philippe Saint-Andre's men lifts them into fourth in the Top 14 table, which has a new leader with Racing-Metro at the helm.
The Parisians replace Bayonne at the top after a 51-20 win over Bourgoin, while the Bayonne went down 28-20 to Heineken Cup holders Toulouse.
Toulon begin their Heineken Cup campaign at home to Magners League champions the Ospreys on Saturday, October 9, before travelling to Ireland to face double European Champions Munster a week later.
London Irish are the other opponents in Pool 3, with Toulon due to face the Exiles in back-to-back games in December.
