The star-studded Welsh region also notched up league victories over Ulster and Connacht and, despite the opening weekend defeat in Belfast; Byrne believes their pedigree across the Irish Sea has installed a new-found confidence at the region.
Byrne, 30, said: "The two teams in Ireland that stick out are Munster and Leinster. We won in Limerick and then in the final and those results prove we have got nothing to fear anymore.
"It was a hurdle we had to get over. But we want to replicate last season's victory and come away with another win.
"There are some games you get up for more than others but this is one that stands out on the calendar. It is early on in the season but games like this could decide where you end up in the table but we're looking forward to it. We have to front up like last season."
Dan Biggar will start at number ten and faces a battle with experienced Munster pivot Ronan O'Gara.
But Byrne reckons promising Wales fly-half Biggar will be able to cope with the verbal attention from the British Lions and Ireland star.
Byrne added: "It will be a good battle with Ronan. I know him from the Lions tour and he is someone who likes to wind people up a bit. But Dan has already put down a marker this season and he really means business.
"He is very mature but confident for his age. In fact, they are both very confident players and both similar in the way they kick and play to the corners. I just hope Dan comes out on top at the weekend."
