With the build-up to the Dublin 2013 European club rugby finals intensifying by the day, the four elite clubs of ASM Clermont Auvergne, Toulon, Leinster Rugby and Stade Francais Paris, who are focused on their quest for Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup silverware respectively, won't be the only clubs with Europe on their mind over the weekend of 17 and 18 May.

Lauaki begins training with Clermont

Former Waikato Chiefs and All Black number 8, Sione Lauaki, has begun pre-season training with French champions, Clermont Auvergne.
The 17-times capped back row will be an important addition to the Clermont squad as they set out in defence of their title, and although he had several expressions of interest from Japanese clubs, Lauaki opted for the Top 14 and the Heineken Cup.
"Japan might be for later in my career," said the 28-year-old who has conceded that his New Zealand days are probably over. "Vern Cotter contacted me a few months ago. He's a pretty convincing sort of guy and the deal was done quickly." Lauaki has signed a one-year contract with Clermont with an option of another year.
Drawn in a demanding Heineken Cup pool with 2009 champions, Leinster, Saracens and Racing Metro, Clermont kick off their campaign with a home game against Saracens on Saturday 9 October.
