Leicester Tigers have revealed that head coach Richard Cockerill is keen to sign a lock before the start of the new season.
With England international Geoff Parling ruled out for four months after undergoing neck surgery and Richard Blaze also sidelined until December with a foot problem, the Tigers are short on cover in the second row. However, Leicester could struggle to find a lock of the required quality before the new season gets underway.
"We would like to get someone in these circumstances," the club's head of operations, Simon Cohen, was quoted as saying on thisisleicestershire.co.uk. "Of those players who are available at this time of the year, many are up-and-coming players with a lot of talent. But we need someone who is ready pretty soon. In an ideal world, we would get someone who is the right fit and who can not only fulfil a role for the next couple of months, but who can also contribute to the squad for the rest of the season. That person is hard to find."
The two-time Heineken Cup champions open their European campaign with an away tie against Benetton Treviso on Saturday 9 October. Their other Pool 5 opponents are Perpignan and Scarlets.
