Perry Freshwater had high hopes of adding to his two Heineken Cup winners medals when he joined French giants Perpignan in the summer of 2003.
But after tasting double success with Leicester Tiers in 2001 and 2002, his European career since then has been increasingly frustrating.
While the England prop has reached two French Championship finals with Perpignan, helping them to win the Bouclier de Brennus in 2009, they have failed to go further than the quarter-finals in the Heienken Cup.
But after hearing his side, recently beaten by ASM Clermont Auvergne in the French final, had been drawn against his former club Leicester, the Scarlets and Benetton Treviso in Pool 5 of next season's tournament, he pledged a different attitude in Europe from his club.
"We haven't been so focused on the Heineken Cup in the past, but this season we will make a much bigger deal of it," said Freshwater.
"We have targeted the Top 14 in recent years and we managed to win the French title in 2009 and reach the final again this year. But now one of our main goals will be success in Europe.
"We know the Tigers pretty well having played them in the Pool stages in 2008/09 and it will be the fourth season in a row we have faced Benetton Treviso. They beat us in the opening Pool game last year, so we know there will be no easy game in the Pool.
"We have a long way to go in Europe, we know that, but we want to be part of the big Heineken Cup occasions and we have high hopes for next season."
