Jonny Wilkinson is confident Toulon can end their season on a huge high by claiming the Amlin Challenge Cup on Sunday when they meet Cardiff Blues in the final at the Marseille Velodrome.
The England and British & Irish outside half star believes the cosmopolitan and star-studded Toulon squad can put the pain of their Top 14 semi-final defeat last weekend behind them and be crowned Amlin Challenge Cup champions.
Toulon were beaten 35-29 by ASM Clermont Auvergne in the Top 14 semi-finals with Heineken Cup finalists Toulouse losing 21-13 to Perpignan in the other semi-final.
"Making the French final never quite came about so, if we are honest, that result has to mean something and go towards what we want to achieve - that is the Amlin Challenge Cup final on Sunday," he said.
"It is an exciting prospect and Cardiff are a fabulous team. We have had a tough journey and so have they.
"Now it is a one-off game. All the work comes down to one game and the bounce of a ball or two.
"We have to take forward the passion and motivation of coming so close and let it drive the hunger for this weekend.
"Our squad is mentally and physically fresh - no one is crying out for the end."
Writing in his column in The Times, Wilkinson added: "The extra-time loss to Clermont was horrendously disappointing. The closer you get to things the more ambitions you have.
"To reach the final was a realistic opportunity and it hurts like hell to fall short.
"And after 13 years I have never experienced anything like the enormous pride the area has in its teams. It is unique. It is a pleasure being around people who are so selfless in their support."
